HealthTech leaders, clinicians and academics recently came together at the new advisory board’s first meeting to guide Wellbeing Software on its mission to connect healthcare diagnostics for clinicians and improve patient care globally.
Wellbeing’s significant recent wins across the UK and Ireland highlight the growing demand for multi-site laboratory information systems and connected radiology solutions.
Initially, the advisory board will consider both pressing needs and emerging AI opportunities to modernise health diagnostics regionally, enhance care pathways, and drive service efficiencies across the NHS.
The board will report directly to The Citadel Group CEO Mark McConnell and Wellbeing’s Executive Leadership Team, with responsibility for:
- Providing future-focused MedTech thought leadership and AI applications,
- Forging new partnership opportunities, and
- Acting as a sounding board for new ideas and acquisitions.
Dr Michelle Tempest has been appointed to chair the board. Dr Tempest is a Partner at leading strategy consultancy Candesic and has expertise in medicine, acquisitions, due diligence, law and politics. She has an expert interest in AI and medical technology companies and has worked with MedTech companies throughout their lifecycle and global expansion. Board members joining Dr Tempest will be:
- David Wells – One of the most influential advocates for pathology in the global community, David is the Chief Executive of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). He previously led NHS England’s laboratory response to COVID-19 and the NHS England and Improvement Pathology consolidation programme, delivering more efficient, high-quality pathology services across England. In 2020 the Royal College of Pathologists awarded David an Honorary fellowship of the college in recognition of his continued work in transforming England’s pathology services.
- Hugh Risebrow – CEO of Latchmore Associates. Hugh has worked at the public and private healthcare interface for many years, and his experience before joining Latchmore includes leadership roles at Synlab, Interhealth Canada, Unitedhealth Europe (now Optum), BUPA and Guy’s & St Thomas’.
The Citadel Group CEO Mark McConnell stated, “We are at a point in time when the appetite to transform healthcare IT has never been greater, so I am delighted to have the diverse expertise of our advisory board to accelerate our connected healthcare technology partnerships in the region.
“The board brings together the very best clinical and health innovation leaders to identify where change needs to happen on a local, regional and national scale to improve patient outcomes.
“The advisory board played an instrumental role in the recent acquisition of Genie Solutions. Genie is the largest specialist practice management software business in Australia (with a 70%+ market share) and we look forward to the prospect of bringing their innovative cloud-based software (Gentu) into new markets in the future.”
Chair of the board Dr Michelle Tempest added: “We are all delighted and excited to join the talented international team at Citadel / Wellbeing. Covid has highlighted the need for globalised diagnostic capabilities. The Advisory Board will be working hard to ensure that best practice and interoperability can be leveraged in the UK and across Europe. Our Australian colleagues already have solutions digitally delivering care and lab results across a country with a geographical land mass 3000% larger than the UK. Digital prevents distance from being a hurdle in care and enables openness, user-friendly platforms, cybersecurity and cloud access across laboratories, hospitals and the community. We look forward to hearing from people who want to join us on this mission.”
